I have HPV. Yup, an STD. It sucks. People get to make their own decisions about how they want to treat me based on knowing that I have it. Some sources of information on HPV can be found at:
http://www.ashastd.org/hpvccrc/index.html
http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm
http://www.cdc.gov/std
From the information I have found, and what I have been told by doctor type people my understanding is that if you have it you have it. Catching a new strain is rare and unlikely. If someone has reason to believe otherwise, please tell me I would appreciate all additional information.
And now the end of our public service announcement.
Your sources aren’t actually visible above. At least, I can’t see the links.
Not that I haven’t seen similar links before, but, y’know, on principle.
Thank you dear. I’m still trying to figure out how to use this stuff.
If you need help, feel free to mail me. I’m one of many that could help you figure it out.
From the CDC page:
Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 5.5 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year.
While I understand it is a bit of a shock, it is not very surprising given those infection rates. I know several people who have it. I’m sure I know even more that have it and have not told me. If you want to bitch about it, I’ll lend an ear.
Your body kills off some strains of the HPV virus and others it doesn’t. My doctor tells me that 75% of people my age have it and he also said that the HPV virus is small enough to easily get through a latex condom so if you have sex changes are you are going to get it.
Some strains cause warts others cervical cancer. Just keep getting your regular check ups and you should be fine.
Geesh you’re like person number 1,456 I know who has it.
