Krissy-speak

Hussy: Adjective
Used to describe a person and/or their behavior (hussy-ish) when they are flirty and sexual in a way that is not actually going to lead to sex.

Slut: Adjective
Used to describe a person and/or their behavior (slutty) when they are flirty and sexual in a way that will lead to sex.

And this ends your public service announcement for the day.

Yay, I’m a hussy! Although personally I prefer the title of “tease.”

Now, random facts (historical occurences) and opinions (i.e. the way I tend to use things, and have experienced others using them) from an opinionated English major:

    1) (fact) “hussy” is an old term for a whore.

    2) (opinion) “hussy” basicly means “slut” these days.

    3) (fact) the term “slut,” along with the term “bimbo,” were both originally terms for guys. Don’t believe me? The “o” ending is masculin. Hence, a female bimbo would technically be a “bimba.”

    4) (opinion) “slut”: someone who sleeps around indescriminately.

Given this last one, having your take on the meaning of “slut” goes a LONG way to clarifying your LJ handle:)

Well, from another opinionated English major:

English is a fluid language. The vernacular is a powerful thing. This would be why I labeled the entry “Krissy-speak” as opposed to “Definitions” or something implying real authority. 🙂

My handle is actually a funny story. Maybe I will tell you some day. It has nothing to do with sex.

      I’m assuming you’re makin’ a funny.

    Interesting.

How do you define “slut” as a personal adjective? Or is *anyone* engaged in flirtatious and sexual behaviour a “slut”?

My definition of slut as a personal descriptor is “someone who will have sex with someone they’re not attracted to”.

In the case of your LJ name I’d modify it as “someone who will wear boots they don’t like, just because they fit”.

Hrm….this has little to do with the original intent of your post. Sorry about that.

Well, I wrote that a slut is someone who engages in flirting and sexual behavior that leads to sex. Not just flirting. I also don’t see it as negative.

I’ve never had sex with someone I wasn’t attracted to, and I think I’m pretty slutty.

Not quite so on the nick.

I had friends who described people working in the sex industry as x-sluts.

As in, stripper sluts, movie sluts, etc. They worked in the industry, fwiw.

Me, I’ve always taken “slut” as a good thing. A woman who takes sexual agency, and all that.

I’m not sure what term I’d use to describe somebody willing to have sex with somebody they’re not attracted to. There’s “I wasn’t originally physically attracted to X, but once I got to know hir I found hir beautiful,” which wouldn’t count for this… But really having sex with somebody you find unpleasant/unattractive seems sorta bizarre.

I tend to think of a “slut” as somebody who will have sex with anybody they are attracted to, even if there’s nothing deeper to it than, “Oh, zie’s kinda cute, I think I’ll take hir home and screw hir.”

    Uhh…

    s/Adjective/Noun/g;

I usually use “flirt” for the former. And somebody is a “tease” if they flirt in a way that they are aware will probably be perceived as indicating that it can lead to more, when they don’t actually intend it to.

A dog in a Disney movie?

(Sorry, when I was over at DeeDee and Coyote’s the other day, their lil’uns were watching Lady and the Tramp II. *g*)
