The headphones are part of the unit for me, so I don’t think to mention them separately. 🙂

Don’t like chocolate, have good bread. Have smelly stuff.

Working on it. 5 hours till I leave the house.

A mini-umbrella and/or rain coat? Ireland is likely to be quite rainy for a while.

I hope you have good time there.

umbrella, raincoat, rain hat, hiking boots, (skip the shoes entirely). expect rainy & windy near the shores. Sweater will be near useless without a jacket.

    Power converter.
    Passport.
    chapstick

Frankly, I’d skip the knitting & mp3 player and I’d only take fiction that I expected to leave somewhere when I was finished. The more stuff you have to carry, the more stuff you have to worry about.

Tylenol/asprin/motrin/whatever, small bottle. ATM card, credit card.

Pen, if you’re taking writing books.

Do you have a plan for a mobile phone? Do you care?

Triple check your computer cords. Missing one is a royal bitch, tmot.

    Poonts.

check, check, check, heavy duty walking shoes that were purchased for London- they do quite nicely, yup, I know that! check, almost had a heart attack but finally check, check.

I’m taking the knitting and the mp3 player because we will be driving around the island. I will be spending a bunch of time sitting in a rental car and Tom is not the most talkative chap in the world. I will be really happy that I have it. Trust me.

      check, check, check

      check

      don’t care, have calling card

check and wow I believe you.

      What are poonts?

Dude. do you really need to remind me to pack small?! I am taking effectively one bag, and I have extra room. So I’m ok with taking books that I want to bring back. You have seen me pack light before. 😛 (Although I do have one more pair of pants and long underwear for this trip, which I didn’t need with you. Given the differing ambient temperatures of the locations and all…)

Personal Assistant: Me! Me! Take me!!

    No? Oh, well, I tried.

I’d pack a ziploc bag or two. Put your “can explode and get icky” stuff in at least one of them. (A backpacking trick that has come in handy a time or two.)
    Put papers in another.

Eyes? That is, maybe a case for your glasses, for the moments when they’re not on your face. It would suck not to be able to see all the wondrous things there because they’ve gotten broken accidentally. And, even though I don’t recall ever seeing you in contacts, extra eye stuff, if you do have them.

      No. 😛

I am very very familiar with the ziplock bag trip. Don’t leave home without them.

      My papers are very safe.

I only have one pair of glasses, but my vision is fine without them. I only have 20/30 vision so I will always be ok even if I lose my glasses. I will just have to take a bunch of Ibuprofen for the raging headaches.

Anything that you’d just run out to Walgreen’s for, take it with you because they’ll have different stuff there.

A flashlight. Safety pins. Clothespins to make sure curtains stay closed and let you sleep in.

    I second the power converters.

    Take extra cash.

Are the fiction books paperbacks? You’ll be happier if you can leave them behind after finishing them.

A neck pillow for the plane. An eyemask?

Flip-flops for when you have to walk to the bathroom at night.

Do you have small bottles for your shampoo, etc? Liquid is heavy; don’t carry more than you need to.

Take a walk around the block, *carrying* all of your luggage. Because at some point, you’ll be doing just that. See if you still want those extra shoes after the walk.

The flashlight is a brilliant idea and one that I hope Tom followed up on because I doubt I will at this late a time. Hm.

I have safety pins. We are staying at hotels so I’m not so worried about the clothespins. We will be ok on that one.

      Power converters are a check.

      Have cash, will travel.

Actually I want to take the books home. But I have plenty of room. You’ve never seen me pack.

I don’t have a neck pillow, but it’s ok. I have Ted. He is multi-functional. 😀 Don’t have an eye pillow, and that’s ok too.

No flip flops. I’ve never needed them in these types of circumstances and I just know I would bitch about carrying them right now.

      Duh.

Ok, I can’t give you the same shit I give Chris. So I’ll actually give you an explanation. I went to Australia with one (normal sized backpack). I went to Alaska to backpack through the wilderness with a backpack. I went to London and Paris with one backpack for both Tom and I. I’m very very familiar with traveling light. The one thing people don’t need to tell me is how to pack lighter. 😀

Dude, you have travelled (for pleasure) SO much more than I have.

But I have stayed in SO many more hotel rooms than you have.

You’ll want those clothespins or binder clips or something, and I hope you’re able to find them, b/c you’re probably en route right now…

Oh, wait – and have fun!

I have safety pins and they can be used for the same purpose….

I’m also going to Ireland in the winter. There will be 10 hours or fewer of sunlight and I’m only spending two nights in big cities. It is going to be freakin dark.

I’m not en route yet (4 hours till I get on BART to go to the airport). But I’ve also never wanted clothespins before. It’ll be fine.
