That’s what I was thinking! And now she’s gone and ruined it for the three other people on the planet who care, but still haven’t seen the movie! (teehee)
As to why they did that….because it made it that much more believable. If Wash could die, then any of them could die, it wasn’t just some sweet happy ending. It made us, the audience, sit all the more on the edge of our seats, question our characters abilities to survive….it struck to the core….and that’s what made it such an absolutely horrid thing and absolutely right for the movie.
That said, I was mad as hell and cried through the end, but, well, it worked.
Both are very logical reasons. And i thoroughly enjoyed the movie. But goddamnit they killed both of my favorite characters.
“Book, doesn’t the Bible say some very specific things against killing?”
“Oh yes, very specific. It is, however, rather vague in the area of kneecaps.”
But he got to have his ultimate flight as a pilot and prove his manliness just before! Poor excuse for a dramatic moment. Stupid tree-like stakey thing. The rest can go. Not Wash.
The night before i had seen it, a friend who caught the opening night smiled and said “I am a leaf on the wind, Watch how I soar.” And then told me I’d hate him for it later.
I deliberately avoided the whole Firefly/Serenity thing because the main friend who was pushing me to wash it also tried to force me to watch Buffy and I hated that. Her judgment is questionable. So I hadn’t seen any of it until the last few months. 🙂 Yay for Noah not taking “No” for an answer. 😉
I’m surprised you made it this long without seeing the movie. tho he’s not the only character they killed… I’m thinking the actors who played Wash and the preacher didn’t want to be involved in anything in the future. Too bad. *pout*
Hee. I laugh because it’s true.
You know what *I* can’t believe?
That you managed to remain unspoiler-ed for this long. Good show!

Have you seen my tribute?
Weirdo

Well, that and the actor has been the most successful of the batch and couldn’t be counted on to be available for additional work.
Book was killed for similar reasons, but in his case it was health issue… Ron was and is recovering from cancer.

And lastly, for those who have not seen it, I leave this. http://walkerboh.deviantart.com/
Two by Two, Fur of Blue
You and the other people who gave me this link are all GOING TO HELL.
One of the hardest moments in a movie I’ve had to watch in a long time. *nods* Hurts, but…..well, you can see my comments below.
But he got to have his ultimate flight as a pilot and prove his manliness just before! Poor excuse for a dramatic moment. Stupid tree-like stakey thing. The rest can go. Not Wash.
NOOOOOO!!!!
I hadn’t seen it yet. DAMMIT!
Why did you have to go a spoil it?
Re: NOOOOOO!!!!
Because I am a bad person.
Re: NOOOOOO!!!!
I am teasing. I saw it a long time ago. And yes, I was upset by that, too.
The night before i had seen it, a friend who caught the opening night smiled and said “I am a leaf on the wind, Watch how I soar.” And then told me I’d hate him for it later.
I did.
*cries again*
*hugs* Very very sad.
*I* can’t believe…
… you didn’t know yet.
Here.

I KNOW
Horrible, wasn’t it? Gah! We were protesting all the way to the car.
I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.

Re: I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.
I DON’T FUCKING CARE THEY AREN’T ALLOWED TO LEAVE.
Okay, um, I think I know who I’m talking to, but if so, you changed your name.
…
Right?
A) You know me
B) Yes, a name change. 🙂
C) Yes, I’m still interested in you for you. 😉
Excellent. Just wanted to make sure you were you before I went and friended some random stranger.
Yes, and thank you for putting that behind a cut, SO THOSE OF US WHO HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET WON’T HAVE IT RUINED!
Seeing as you aren’t on my friends list and I don’t think I know who you are, I don’t feel too guilty.
Good point and my apologies. I don’t even remember why you’re on my friends list…
