Quote of the day

A coworker and I were complaining about how our kids have never heard about Oedipus. I said that of course they haven’t, they are too busy thinking about videogames.

“Oh! They should totally make an Oedipus game for the Xbox!! That would be so cool!”

I left the room. That was just plain wrong.

Well, they wouldn’t need much in the way of graphics for the last few levels. IIRC, Oedipus eventually stabs out his own eyes with hairpins…. So just a blank, black screen after that point.

Yeah, that’s what I thought of too, at first, and then realized my mistake, and had a bit of a giggle over what kind of video game about Oedipus might be.

I was going off on a tangent. I do know the difference between Oedipus and Odysseus.

Just saying that video games of Greek mythology might not be so bad an idea.

They’re out there. One of GameTunnel’s top ten independent games this year was very strongly based on the Odyssey, and it’s not like this year’s was the first.

I’ve played video games that bad. Come to think of it, I can think of several bad video game sequels that might be intended to convey that feeling.

Actually, that might work. Say, a strategy tame where you try to gain power. Ridding the citty of plague=gaining power. Marrying the queen=gaining power. Killing some random guy for beeing snoty might=gaining power.

‘Course, in the end, all those things will take away all the points you earned… Might make a better cartoon.

Huh, might actually be on to something here…
