Oh my

Well, uhm… so I’ve been looking at my stomach for a bit and going “There is no way I am only as far along as I think. No freakin way.” Yesterday I *finally* had an examination by a midwife (long story) and, well… I’m right. Looks like I am 17-ish weeks which means that if I actually judge from that last period more like about 18 weeks. I think I am probably going to get an ultrasound just so that I can have a more firm due date–still not finding out gender though. This means I shoot from being almost done with the third month to being more like start of the fifth month. This means I didn’t get a positive home pregnancy test until 11 weeks in. This means I had tattoo work done while pregnant. This means I drank enough to get drunk a couple of times while pregnant. This means I uhm celebrated my birthday while pregnant. Ah shit. No use crying over spilled milkshake.

Midwife said that I am heavy enough to start with that it isn’t a big deal that I still haven’t gained weight and I think this is a reasonable belief as well. She’s happy that I started on prenatal vitamins so early–which may be part of why I’m not having cravings. She thinks that I do need to stay on fish oil because flax seed isn’t as pregnancy friendly. 🙁

And this means that I was bitching about not getting pregnant quickly enough while I was pregnant. *blush* This means I got pregnant in June after going off birth control mid-cycle in May. That’s pretty funny considering how upset I was.

    for Omega-3 and Omega-6,

which is what I assume you’re taking fish oil or flax oil for, you light also look into grapeseed oil. It’s high in these as well, it’s yummy like olive oil and you can eat it straight or on salads, and it also has one of the highest flashpoints of all edible oils so you can fry with it, too (unlike olive oil). Safeway/Lucky doesn’t usually carry it, but you can buy it for a dollar an ounce at those fancy-ass grocery stores, or you can buy it for $7/qt at Ranch 99 and the like just as easily.

    Yay Kid!

Maybe the grumpiness *was* a pregnancy symptom, like PMS.

I knew but wasn’t telling about my pregnancy when my family was in town for the wedding. Fetus-Kidlet rode a roller coaster that went upside down that week – I didn’t want to seem completely out of character… Happily, no consequences other than that she’s a zoomy kid.

Dinner, less exciting: Beer battered Haddock with malted vinegar and a side of steamed brussled sprouts

Replace the malted vinegar and brussel sprouts with tartar sauce and some kind of potato product and you have got a deliciously artery-clogging meal of fabulousness.

            At least, to me.

Don’t forget to avoid soy products, as the estrogen-like hormones could screw up a boy’s hormonal development (to the point of causing sterility in adulthood).

I just this afternoon gave an oral presentation on gestational diabetes. If you think you might be at risk for either that or Type II diabetes, you might consider getting tested for that. The earlier, the less severe you can keep the complications, if you have it.

I’m sure you’ve heard more than enough advice by now, so I’ll leave it at that.

    In any case, congratulations again!

Wow, that’s awesome!! It will be good to have the ultrasound dating – it will make planning a whole lot easier.

I’m so happy for you – and thinking about you often.

This means you’ll be feeling the baby move very soon. 🙂 *Hugs*

20 week ultrasound is the big screening one, which really helped me by assuring me everything looked great. It was going to be our only one, but I had to have a second one at 41 weeks to make sure everything looked ok for me to continue to wait for natural labor. Just be sure to tell them you definitely don’t want to know the sex. Our tech said she doesn’t even look at all if the parents don’t want to know, so there can’t be any slip ups by anyone.
