Milestones: First bottle

Last night I decided it was time to try out the pump I was given. (Yay Lauren!) That was a weird fucking feeling. I really want to start introducing myself as Bessie. I didn’t get all that much milk out… a detour and twenty minutes of reading up on the web… ok apparently I got a fair bit of milk out. Go me? She had an amusing reaction to the bottle. “NOT MOMMY! NOT MOMMY! Hey…food…cool.” I don’t think we are going to have much of a problem feeding this kid. Of course, mommy boob is still the best pacifier ever.

Her favorite sleeping position is on the Boppy. Let’s think about this for a minute, shall we? In order for her to stay balanced I have to be wearing the Boppy. This means I am effectively trapped during her naps. oy. She will sometimes sleep in the Moby but only if you are moving pretty much the whole time and not bending over.

I need to post new pictures. She already looks different…

    pumping is… odd.
    Go you.

I’m glad she will take a bottle, and that she still prefers you. Smart girl, already!

Oh – Kidlet and I are over the croup – we should find a time to visit you.

Do you have a swing? Rebecca would nap in the swing sometimes. It’s not very attachment parent. You could borrow ours for the six months it might be useful if you want. It’s one of the free standing battery powered (ick) ones. We always meant to hack an AC adaptor for it, but never got around to it.

The funny thing is: I have only recently gotten the information that “Attachment Parenting” is a specific thing from a book. I’ve never read the book. I don’t know the theories behind it. At this point I hold her because it makes her happier and the whole fourth trimester thing makes sense to me.

So! I don’t have a moral objection to the swing, I think we actually have something like that in the other room. Or it’s just a bouncy seat. Are they different? I have no idea. At this point I am willing to sacrifice my mobility because I feel that I brought her into the world it’s ok for me to bend to her needs for a bit. 🙂 I’m not actually doing badly so I haven’t gotten desperate enough to pawn her off yet. Ask again how I feel about such things when Noah has been back at work for a while. 😉

I’m not sure what you have. If it doesn’t have an on/off switch, then it’s probably a bouncy seat… I have vague memories of the thing you have being a swing… but I can’t really remember. A swing, well, swings, by itself. Like a pendulum clock it gets a little kick at each end of the swing to keep it going. So it’s pretty low power, and they come with lots of different mobiles and junk.

We checked and what we have vibrates a little and that’s all. So! Yes, we would love to take you up on your offer to borrow the swing. 🙂 I suspect that she gets touched-out and that is part of the current fuss so I’m not sure I believe that she must be touched at all times. It’s a pretty common thing in my family. 🙂

Okay, I’m not sure how germ phobic you’re being right now, but Rebecca had a cold a week ago Sunday, and although that should mean she’s on the border of not contagious any more, she will have a hacking cough for the next two to three weeks. And Jesse keeps thinking he is sick, although I think it is mostly the horrible air we’ve been having, but he’d stay home. In any case, I suspect you might be happier if Noah came by to pick it up after work or something, instead of us visiting you. We could come by today, or next weekend, or possibly Tuesday or Thursday morning.
