When did traveling get so complicated?

Because this baffles me, here is my packing list so far. I’m sure I’m forgetting things.

Shanna related:
diapers (I’m bringing 30 and praying that it works out) [there are three types of diapers coming with us and five covers]
wipes (40? 50?)
receiving blankets (3–they are the best thing for diaper changes)
pump and bags for storage
breast pads
fuzzy blanket for warmth (only 1 I hope it doesn’t get too scummy on day one. ha.) blacksheep_lj is coming to the rescue… again!
blanket for the ground (I put her down pretty often and the ground is often icki)
Mob
empty bags for storing dirty diapers
burp cloths (I’m thinking 10 and praying that isn’t overly optimistic)
socks (5 prs)
onesies (5)
outfits (5)
jammies (5)
sunhats (3)
shoes (1)
bibs (3)
baby body soap
fucking hypoalergenic wussy-ass laundry detergent (I can’t believe I buy this) blacksheep_lj is coming to the rescue… again!
Boppy (I wouldn’t be able to handle the pain of going over a week without it)
Pretty Dress

For Noah and I:
jeans (1 pair each)
shirts (6 or 7, not sure yet)
underwear (5)
bras (2)
socks (2 pairs each)
shoes (1 pair each beside the sandles we’ll wear on the plane)
dress up clothes for both of us

shampoo/conditioner
razors
toothbrush/toothpaste
floss
mouth wash

vitamins
phone chargers
pictures for the Portland folks
camera
laptop with games for Noah
books

This is planning to do laundry mid-week. See how the list for Shanna is longer and more complex than for Noah and I? Good grief.

Do you have reusable wipes – is that what you mean with your 40-50 count? When we travel we usually just use flushable unscented/hypoallergenic wipes – ones meant for adults have been easiest to find that fit that category. A pack is plenty, and if it isn’t we just pick up another at the drug store wherever we are.

I have washable waterproof pads that I use for diaper changes (I should say “used to use”….I can do it on the fly now). A prefold under her butt would serve as a catch for any mess, and one pad would usually do for a trip. Maybe two.

I assume you’re just using ziplocs for holding dirty diapers?

Not sure you need the fuzzy blanket if you’ve got all those receiving blankets. I can give you a blanket when you get here, too. A loaner for the trip.

Oh…if you want bibs, we’re about to get rid of a whole bunch that are too tiny to be useful anymore…I was hoping you’d want to go through our outgrowns and pick out clothes/etc you might want. Just a heads up.

What’s the difference between an outfit and jammies? I seem to recall at 3 months having Anya in footie suits day or night, or onesies if it was too warm for a suit. And layering the two if it was cold. (someone actually had ot point out to me that this was an option….I somehow didn’t make the connection that you could put a onesie UNDER a suit. DUR)

If you want, I can give you some Charlie’s Soap when you get here. We bought 5 gallons of the stuff in bulk when we realized we liked using it for ALL our clothes, not just diapers. I’m quite sure we can spare some if it makes your travel packing easier.

*cough* Uhm er… at least part of the reason for the jammies AND outfits is because Dad bought them all and hinted he would like to see them. I figure that seeing as bringing five extra ‘outfits’ at this size amounts to a wad of fabric the size of one hardbound book I can accommodate him. Yeah. I feel like a dweeb for doing it, but he said it would make him happy. *shrug* freakin parents.

We do use reuseable wipes. I figure that since we are going to be washing the diapers anyway the wipes go in the same load. Dad is fine with us using his washer and that way I don’t have to deal with buying disposables for the trip.

The receiving blankets work pretty well and they fold down really small. We generally have two in the diaper bag and very rarely have to use both. The third is the back up that will be in the suitcase for closer to laundry day. Our problem is often hitting the blanket with the wipe or dripping from the diaper so the absorbency is less of an issue.

Yup, ziploc is our friend. Thanks for that suggestion. 😀

The receiving blankets aren’t actually very warm as they are super thin. I was thinking that it would be good because we are going to be going from 90’s-100 degree weather during the day here down to 70’s with the 50’s at night. If we are out and about I get paranoid about her being cold. She probably isn’t but I get the impression that this is a mom-typical tic. Noah makes fun of me. That said, I would cheerfully take a loaner blanket for slightly less in the suitcase on the plane. 🙂

I would love to go through your outgrowns! That would be awesome! I’ll make sure to leave room in the baggage. 😀 Although it will mean I have no more excuse to go shopping. *sigh* Baby clothes are So Darn Cute!

Down here with the extreme heat we don’t have her in footed outfits almost ever. Maybe at night when it starts getting cold. Most of her outfits are actually shorts or dresses. It’s to humor Dad… Anya was also 3 months in a colder month I believe. 🙂 (If I remember correctly…)

I would really appreciate the Charlie’s. It means one less tupperware container full of liquid in my luggage. Even though it would also be wrapped in a bag (or two or three) it still makes me nervous. And it adds to weight.

Have I mentioned lately that you rock? Lending/giving us so much stuff is thoroughly excellent of you. 😀 Speaking of which, I should also figure out when we will be seeing you. Do you by any chance have any daytime hours that you don’t work?

does this, too. I try not to make too much fun of her for it, unless she’s wearing shorts and a sweater. Then I make fun of her because, dude, shorts and a sweater?

Nope. She wasn’t three months in a cooler month. I went back and checked. 🙂 Uhmmm…. Portland is cooler than Fremont? 🙂

Sweety – you know you can use my washer while you are here, of course!
Sounds like you have a plan, but I’m just saying – you have people!

Can’t wait to squeeze you all!!!!
