Are you a parent who feels like your friends group doesn’t quite know what to do with you now? Do you feel out of place at most parenting groups? Are you trying to figure out how to meet people outside of the parties you used to attend?
For the purposes of this invitation freak is defined as: genderqueer, kinky, poly, pagan, burner, goth, punk, trans, queer, bisexual, industrial, hippy, AP, or if you just feel like you don’t quite fit in at the local mommy group. You can be any of the above or none of the above. If you think you qualify as a freak, come on down.
It doesn’t matter if your kids are 6 months old, 6 years old, or 16 years old. You are welcome if you want to meet other freaks who can empathize with how being a parent has changed your life. You can be a bio-parent, adoptive parent, or an honorary parent. If you spend a noticeable chunk of your life parenting a child you consider yours, then you count as a breeder in my book. If you choose to reject the label of breeder, that’s fine too.
Come meet other freak breeders at the Oakland Zoo on Saturday November 15th. I will be arriving at 9:30 am. I will hang out outside of the gate till 10. If you would like to go I would love an RSVP so that I know approximately how many to expect: krissy AT bigrock it’s a dot com sort of address. If you RSVP I will also send you my cell phone number so that you can potentially join up with the group in the zoo if you are running a little late.
Please pass this on! Send it to your friends! Put it on your blog! Put it on mailing lists! I hope to meet a great many new freaks in addition to seeing the ones I already know.
🙁
I sure wish I lived closer. Maybe I should start one up around here after #2 is born.
Would you mind if I stole your announcement when I get around to this?
I’m so happy that things are going so well for you! And if you ever make it out to Boston again, I’d love to catch up!
Re: 🙁
Steal away. 🙂 I will come visit the next time I go east. 🙂

What a great idea. Where were you when I needed you?
I could answer that, but you might want to smack me. 🙂

When I become a breeder, I’m sooo going to steal this!

So our friends in common have pointed us to this post. pantryslut and myself now have three week old twin girls. They’re probably not ready for a zoo trip next month, but w’all (we all – imnotandrei is pantryslut’s hubby) might be interested in future events.
Excellent! You are probably right that you won’t be ready cause twins are complicated, but I was really ready to get out of the house at a month post-partum. However, I did not have a c-section. It’s different.
I look forward to re-meeting ya’ll in a more coherent fashion at some point soonish. 🙂
Forgive my old brain, but where did we meet before?
We’ve met to some degree or another quite a few times. Black Sheets, at various other kink events, but most recently at Daphne’s reading. I had the baby and we drove Mo up. 🙂 Here is a link to a picture that may or may not jog your memory: http://pics.livejournal.com/rightkindofme/pic/0002pwez/g12
It’s not a picture I love, but it’s what I (and the rest of my family) look like. 🙂
Ah, y’all are familiar. Thanks for the refresher.
Heh, crying baby photos. 🙂
She’s gotten more interesting since I switched to Picasa: http://picasaweb.google.com/somethingdifferent/Shanna#
(I was running out of room)
I have some shuddering awe for what ya’ll are going through with two.

I totally fit the bill, and would love to join fellow freaky moms and “moms”… but schedule-wise, no can do. *POUT* Have a great time!
There will be more. Probably not till January. 🙂

Here is the group where we are discussing the January outing (and all future ones I hope): http://groups.google.com/group/freak-breaders-in-the-bay

Love the concept!!! I feel completely out of place at the park and am terrified to be in a flock of your typical mommies.
Alas, I sincerely doubt I could get everyone out of the house on a Sat AND up to Oakland by 9:30.
Hmmm…. would anyone be interested in a south bay get together in the afternoon or evening? Afternoons, during the week, I can do things withing walking distance.
Unfortunately I haven’t met many folks in the south bay yet. This is obnoxious because it is way more convenient for me to head south. I’m going to try and do stuff hither and yon in the bay area though under the auspice of “everyone should take a turn traveling.”
Given that most parents (even the freaks) seem to adjust to an earlier schedule it may be tough for your schedule all the time though. Shanna isn’t real thrilled with stuff later in the day and that seems to be pretty much the norm. Evening stuff is often spent trying to keep her from screaming and that’s just not social. (Her preference is for bedtime to be at 7:30.) An outing starting at about 2pm is really as late as I would try for something focused on her. [This isn’t to say that we never try to take her out later, but it often blows up and I wouldn’t have a bunch of kids doing that at once.]

Next time at the San Jose Discovery Museum? Both the kids hate car rides.
It’s looking like San Jose for the next outing in January. I made a group: http://groups.google.com/group/freak-breaders-in-the-bay
