OMG, I can’t believe you’re forcing your innocent child to foist your political beliefs on the rest of the world! You evil pinko commie! That’s so irresponsible! 😉

But seriously, glad to see those pics going to good use:)

You ain’t gonna like this, madame, but your daughter looks better in pink than in beigey greens. I’m going out on a limb here but I think colorwise that she’s a “winter” and pink is in her best palette.

Good news is that there are many other options beyond pink in which she’ll look fabulous. (Good: Peacock, royal blue, strong green? Avoid the muted yellows and beige-greens.) Check out the book “Color Me Beautiful” if you want more info. It’s frequently found in used book stores. There are pages which can be removed from the book to make shopping easy.

She is *so* cute. I enjoy your frequent postings here. It’s almost like having a granddaughter vicariously.

I think this kind of stuff is still in flux. For the first 2-3 months she looked shitty in pinks because she was too ruddy. (the onesie in the picture is tan ftr)

The problem is that baby clothes don’t come in that big of a variety of colors and if I don’t want her to live in strongly gendered clothing then yellow and light green is a lot of what exists. oy. If you want to find some stronger colored fairly neutral clothes I’ll put them on her. 😀

And dude–you’ve got a while till you get to be a grandmother. 😉 You aren’t old enough yet.

Oh! You missed it! Andrew did a fabulous job babysitting. I was so thrilled he was willing to do it and seemed to even have some level of fun in between her being upset. heh. (I’m sure he told you all about it, but I’m still groveling.)

Paula and I are within two weeks of being exactly the same age, and the Dudes are 30 and 25 respectively. She’s *plenty* old enough to be a grandma. And I’m enjoying reading about Shanna in much the same way, since the Dudes don’t seem to be in any hurry to produce grandchildren for me.

As for the color thing: do they still sell Oshkosh B’Gosh overalls in corduroy? Back in the day, they were available in a wide range of colors — the best pix of Ben (a Summer) at that age are in lavender Oshkosh with a white shirt underneath. And they’re utterly ungendered.

Once she’s into preschooler sizes it gets easier. I remember a little girl who was infatuated with Miles when they were both three or so. Her mother told me that there had been a major tantrum one day when she refused to go to school unless she could wear “something brown, like Miles.”

Miles’s coloring is similar to mine — light-brown hair, ivory skin, dark brown eyes; he’s always looked best in earth tones — an Autumn, I guess. (I think I’m more like a Spring these days, but I used to be more Autumn-y.) The little girl in question, however, was Latina; her mother used to dress her in reds and hot pinks, and had to do some grubbing through the discard pile to come up with something brown enough to satisfy her.

          well, shoot.

          i’m not ready for grampa-dom
          not by a long shot.
even though i’m *nearly* as ancient.

that smiling grrl-child should wear any color clothes
that are the easiest to put on.

the easy to take off part
          becomes more important to her
          as *you* grow closer
          to gramma age….
