ch-ch-changes

It’s time for a hair cut. I’m looking around the internet and these are the things that are popping out at me. Kind of the point is that I am trying to cut off the damage from dying my hair. Right now it mats so badly in half an hour that I can’t wear it down.

Edited…

I think this is about as short as Noah would want me to go: http://z.about.com/d/beauty/1/0/6/p/thandienewtonhair.JPG

I wish I had the nerve to wear my hair messy because this would look good on me: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-hair-hair-cut-styles-13.html

Neat: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-medium-hair-cut-13.html

Shorter, and I’m not sure I could really handle the bangs: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-hair-medium-length-styles-15.html

More ‘boring’ but would work on my hair: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/hair-style-for-naturally-curly-hair-14.html

A really good cut, but maybe too short: http://besthaircutstyles.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/hair137.jpg

More like what I usually get: http://www.curly-hair-styles-magazine.com/curly-hair-hair-cut-styles-04.html

I really like the one you say is more like what you usually get:

I would kill to have hair that would do that. Well, maybe not actually killing. Maiming, perhaps.

How would you feel about something like this:

It seems to keep the illusion of longer, but I suspect it would allow you to trim more of the damaged hair than a blunter cut.

My hair doesn’t do so well with supposedly ‘invisible’ layers. If I do a really chunky cut where you are supposed to see big layers, ok. But not if the cut is supposed to look still kind of streamlined.

I’ve found short hair to be enormously easier to deal with, and I have straight hair. I don’t know how you manage with curls!

I think you could pull off a number of those. Look at face shapes- face shape is the number one defining thing about hair cuts. After all, the biggest thing a hair cut does is change the shape of your head.

Definitely give us before and after pics!

When I’m in a decent mood (most of a bottle of wine supplies that) I can say, “yeah… I have the freakin best hair.” Genetics had to be kind to me in some way. I’m not nice. I’m not thin. I’m not ambitious. But I have great hair.

I like the one you noted as “neat.” I think it would be more flattering than a blunt geometric cut, particularly because your hair is SO thick and SO curly, that shorter, I think it would really pull up and stick out in a cartoonish way. You seem to like the messy, piecey looks, and I think a good stylist could TOTALLY do that for you. Just make sure they are someone who understands that you have to cut curly hair to like TWICE the length you actually want it to wind up!

It is even curlier when shorter. I’m not sure how short you have seen it. When my hair is ~2″ long it curls flat against my head. I look mixed race. It’s kind of cool. 🙂

I can’t avoid messy so I feel like I should run with it.

This month’s O magazine has a redo on an African American woman from NC with a cut that I think would look great on you. Her curls are relaxed and her hair started out below her shoulders. She ended with a kind of reverse triangle up from her neck and wider by her ears. If you stop by a news rack, try to find it. I looked on their web site but alas.

    hey!

are you getting enough cut to donate it to one of those wigs for kids programs?

they’ll take the most unruly hair…
