I just finished watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. It is not accurate in ways that bug me. I know it was a gigantic book and they were going to have to cut things, but I don’t like the random things they added. No I’m not going to get into details cause I don’t want to be yelled at again for spoilers. It was a pretty movie, I’ll give them that.
alas, tis true of far too many books made into movies
In fact I’d guess that this is the norm for Hollywood rather than the exception.
How many movies can you think of that didn’t closely follow the book?
How many movies can you think of that did?
Re: alas, tis true of far too many books made into movies
But the earlier movies in the series were a lot closer…
Harry Potter, Quidditch Player, and the Half-hearted Attempts to Fit in Any Character Development? Is that more or less how the movie goes?
No, that’s not it. There is actually very very little focus on Quidditch, far less than I would expect.
In all fairness, sometimes when they change the story around the movie comes out better. Look at The Bourne Identity, which had only the title, character names, and the amnesiac-spy/assassin theme in common. Less extreme examples of decent movies from books include Jurassic Park, Hunt for Red October, and Master & Commander.
But yeah, sometimes hella artistic license is taken. At least some of the kids have learned to act a little bit? :}
the james bond movies are great examples of using just the titles and character names.
i’ve not read any of the HP books, so i don’t know how/when they follow the plot, or not.
i enjoy the movies, though.
the first one remains my favorite.
‘specially Hermione – the little smart-ass!
