I got all gross and graphic so I’ll be polite and put this behind a cut tag so that folks who are squicked by thoughts of the goings-on in my crotch can skip it. 😛
So the contractions have slowed down to almost nothing. I am so sick of this shit. My midwife stripped my membranes yesterday (that’s when the contractions slowed down–kind of counter-intuitive in my opinion) and accidentally yanked out the mucus plug. Her expression was priceless. I seem to have sprung a slow leak of amniotic fluid. It’s very very slow, more of a trickle really… but it’s something. The only problem with the fluids leaking is that at some point I need to start worrying about intrauterine infection but I think I have a good long while for that (at least 24) but I’m not sure if a really slow leak signals the start of that 24 hour period or if I need to lose a lot more fluid first. So I sent a message to my midwife. She’s in her office today so it might take a bit before she responds. My body seems to be in no flippin hurry. Last time I was checked I was at 3cm. That’s still not ‘active labor’. I seriously want to be shot.
I’m sorry things are moving more slowly than you’d like. You’re in my thoughts.
hope it’s done soon and you’re resting with a healthy baby.
Stay positive, girl. 3cm is great, and second babies can be very sneaky. Hugs.
Prodromal labor
I forgot to mention I also experienced this with Dan’s birth. I imagine you already know all this, but here’s an article which *might* give you more respect for prodromal labor: http://www.childbirthsolutions.com/articles/birth/whatlabor/index.php
(I found the narrative voice more than a little cloying at first but the descriptions which followed were realistic.)
Re: Prodromal labor
I know. 🙂
Re: Prodromal labor
At this point it doesn’t matter if it is prodromal or not. Because my fluid is now leaking I have 24ish hours before it starts becoming a pretty serious conversation about having to go to the hospital, active labor or no because I’m starting to risk major infection that could kill me and/or the baby.
Re: Prodromal labor
My unerstanding is that if you stop all vaginal exams and monitor your temp carefully you can wait longer. Hope the pump helps. More acupuncture?
Re: Prodromal labor
After talking with my midwife I do have longer than 24 that she is comfortable with, but it means if I have to transfer I have to lie. Whoo hoo!
Pump is here, and I’m starting herbal schtuff. *cross fingers* If things go awesome our kids could still share a birthday. 😉
Well, here’s hoping that I am posting a comment, as usual, late in the game, and you’re actually sitting there cuddling a newbie.
If that’s not the case, I offer supportive energy and best wishes.
And remember my friend who went a couple of weeks with a “water leak.” I know they don’t allow that to happen anymore, but still … just mentioning that it didn’t make things worse for her.
hoping you’re having the baby already, but if not the risk of infection comes with sticking stuff up there, so be extra cautious about any exams.
