MDC (are y’all sick of hearing about it yet?) has a thing they do every year called Holiday Helpers. Folks who are in need ask for stuff they need. Last year I sent small boxes to like eight different families. This year I’m just adopting one family. It’s really nice to think about how happy this family will be. It makes me happy. 🙂 Christmas is coming!
We adopt a family every year too. And when we can’t afford to do that we at least try a Salvation Army Tree Angel.
Yay! I am just getting to the point where I really feel stable and secure enough to do stuff like this. For most of my life I didn’t have anything to give and it’s kind of been a slow adjustment to understanding that I really do.
That’s awesome!
My favorite seasonal thing at MCCSF is our toy drive for the Homeless Children’s Network. I usually pull 3-5 cards for kids and get books and/or toys for them. (I don’t have a lot of kids to shop for, and some of these children will have only our presents.) Also, for the past couple years, I’ve bought a few grocery boxes through Goldstar (http://gifts.goldstar.com/products/thanksgiving-sf). It’s not as awesome as being hands-on about it (I also donate to the Food Pantry at St. Gregory’s (http://thefoodpantry.org/, which is an AMAZING project, and I would like to volunteer there but can’t take the time off work as yet), but it’s doing something, and it fits into my busy schedule.
