On MDC there is a thread about trying to limit Christmas so that it doesn’t become a gimmee spree. One woman posted something she got from a book:
The Four Things Children Need At Christmas
1. A relaxed and loving time with family.
2. Realistic expectations about gifts.
3. An evenly paced holiday season.
4. Reliable family traditions.
Combine this with the other maxim about presents posted in the thread:
Something you want.
Something you need.
Something to wear.
Something to read.
It’s making me stop and think about Christmas again. Last year I burned myself out with cookies. I shouldn’t do that again. I’m also thinking that due to financial schtuff this year I really should tell people that we aren’t buying presents. That’s going to be hard emotionally for me and I think for Noah. Awkward.
My family’s been discussing this recently too. We’re all feeling the pinch of the economy and it’s going to cost enough just to manage to be in one place at one time.
We’re trying to figure out what traditions to keep, if we should drop some, and how to deal with gifts. The fact that there are 8 of us at a minimum… challenging.
Due to school costs, I’m making gifts this year. I’ve got a lot of yarn, I just need to figure out what to make for people. People who knit, crochet, weave, etc., are getting handspun yarn. Everyone else gets something crocheted. 🙂
I’m trying to figure out what I can do for a handmade Christmas. I’m not so crafty. 🙂
I could teach you to crochet, if you want to learn. 🙂
Speaking of crafty stuff, I have things for you! I finished 2 grocery bags this week, and have that cute blue hat for S. Also the fruit rollups. Are you going to be in this part of town anytime soon? 🙂
I totally wrote that little rhyme down.
Isn’t it awesome? The funny thing is I would have trouble coming up with four things for Noah. 😀
Of course you’re thinking about Christmas. I’ve already missd one Fezziwigs’ rehearsal.
Something you want.
Something you need.
Something to wear.
Something to read.
Three books and something to exchange for a book!
Hee! Awesome.
You make me happy. But we are trying to cut back on the number of books we own. We’ve been selling them to 1/2 Price Books at a prodigious rate. We need to actually fit in this house if we are going to live in it for years and years.
