I don’t hate you

Quite a few people are going to notice that they were cut from my friends list. I don’t hate you. Noah and I have been talking about the way we are spending our time and we have reached the conclusion that we should spend less time online and one of my biggest time sinks has been lj. There are going to be people who say, “But just take me off your default reading list” and to you I say, “Well it’s really awesome that you think I have the self-control to only read a specific filter but I really don’t.” So that no one feels like I am picking on them–I cut more than 75 people from my list. That’s a lot. I don’t hate any of the people I cut. I would love it if when I see you in person we get to catch up and chit chat and have fun talking, I just can’t keep spending as much time on lj as I do.

I am going to continue to post publicly so if you want to keep reading that isn’t a problem. I just have no self control.

I don’t know if this would help, but it doesn’t take any specific self-control. If you have a filter called “Default View” your regular friends page will show only that filter. You’d have to go to extra effort to read your “unfiltered” friends page. (documented here)

people seriously check who has them friended or not? I figure if you want to read the random updates I post, I’ll remain on your list, and if you find yourself skipping them, then I won’t be. simple as that.

      Pretty much this.

And, I hear you on the self control. I have some of the more prolific communities off in my “other reading” filters just so they don’t drown the folks I actually know in RL. Since getting a few days behind would mean I’d never come close to catching up on those.

    yeah, I get it

Time has become more and more fleeting for me as well and I spend much more time reading than I do posting.

I find that if I’ve missed a few days of reading LJ, catching up can take much more time than I really have available, so I really get what you’re saying.

Ironically, 90% of the folks on my friends list seem to have stopped posting… you, Judith, and a handful of others are the only ones who seem to post anymore… everyone has moved over to twitter (which I refuse to follow cause it would be a time sink) or facebook.

Most of the posts I end up reading these days are from the on-line LJ Weight watchers meetings
