Meeting mommys

So this meeting moms thing isn’t going that well. The neighbor I’ve been trying to hang out with has a lot of irons in the fire. She’s happy to see us at Gymboree, but we don’t talk at all past, “Look–Shanna can sit up! “J has his third tooth!” and that’s not really that interesting to me. I’ve extended offers of dinner and board games and they aren’t interested. I’ve offered to pinch hit on baby-sitting so she can get stuff done and her husband vetoed that (no one who isn’t family is allowed to baby-sit). So… I can spend $75/month for our babies to do lame stuff and be near her for 45 minutes a week. Yeah, I’m thinking that’s a waste of money.

Mommy & Baby yoga is about the same. It’s 10-15 minutes of yoga then an hour of playing with the baby while other moms play with their babies right near us. Uhm… yeah, no. I don’t want to pay for the privilege.

I would love to find other freak moms. The ones I know are pretty busy or they live in FREAKIN PORTLAND. (And there’s Laura in Pittsburgh. I’m kind of pissed I don’t get to go meet her yet.) So, do any of my friends want to set me up on a blind date with another freak mommy? I could make you cupcakes!

Kidlet & I could meet you evenings & weekends.
We’re in Hayward/Union City on weekdays already. I seem to end up with just Kidlet (no Terpsichoros) at least one night a week.

OTOH, you might not have time then.

That’s not far at all. I don’t consider driving to Union City/Hayward a problem. That would be great. I have class on Mondays and Wednesdays, but other than that I don’t have many evening plans. I need to be home by about 7:30 ish for the grumpy hour though.

I wish I could come hang out with you and the kidlet. You wouldn’t even have to give me cupcakes. Though I probably wouldn’t turn them down either.

pantryslut was saying something similar, but she just had twins, so maybe it takes awhile before they hang out with others. but would be happy to introduce you.

I know her to sort of nod from across the room. I enjoyed the parties she used to throw. 🙂

I would be quite happy to see about getting to know one another more.

Thanks for putting that much effort in, but every single one of those links leads me to groups I would have to drive for a minimum of 40 minutes to get to. Given Shanna’s feelings about the car, I’m not going to be spending nearly an hour and a half round trip so that I can attempt to make friends. Given that I’m a bit nervous about meeting new people I’m not going to drive that far so that I can be the shy new person in a group. I will drive that far for a blind date with the friend of a friend if I have a higher chance of getting along with them. Even then… I’m not that thrilled.

Yeah, I should have specified that I would like to live freak moms who live within 20 minutes of me. I realize that is pretty unrealistic of an expectation in my area. 🙁

        I thought Hayward was ok…theres’ a group there….and tri-valley. But wuteva.

“drive for a minimum of 40 minutes to get to…” and that’s why we left the Bay Area…I think EVERYTHING is a minimum of 40 minutes. Ugh. The line in LA was that everything was “20 minutes away.”

Ok, there is a Hayward group. But if you look closely it is a Christian homeschooling group. Now, I don’t have a thing against all Christians, but I think that when they band together like that I am less than likely to find folks who are all freak-happy. 🙂

There is also a Fremont/Union City/Newark group that I should check out. That’s the one I’m being dumb about.

I think that part of the problem is that right now the MA is filling too many of my brain filters. I’ll check out the FUN (that’s their freakin name) group in November. I guess I’m just whining.
