I was just talking to a friend about how upset she is that she can’t go to Burning Man this year.
So uhm, I’m giving her my ticket and I’m going to let her borrow my car to get there. Guess I dodged that bullet. Ha.

GAVE her the ticket? You didn’t sell it at cost? And you LENT her your car? you realize if it rains it’ll get stuck in the mud, in past years cars had to be dragged out
Seeing as I am still not Jewish, I am ok with giving her the ticket. I do know about the car risk and we are trying to find a ride, but I was going to be taking it anyway.
Jewish???
I don’t understand the relevance of you not being Jewish to the act of what you did for your friend and/or what you didn’t ask for in return. Being Jewish myself, I am certainly curious as to what you meant. Can you please explain?
Re: Jewish???
Rebecca has some very specific ideas about what constitutes being culturally Jewish (as a Jew, she’s presumably allowed). They include paying close attention to money. As such, when refers to “being Jewish”, she is specifically referring to being Rebecca-flavored Jewish 🙂
Re: Jewish???
Thank you. I assumed there had to be something I was missing, because I _know_ you to be _WAY_ too nice and considerate and thoughtful for that comment to have meant what it might have meant in some other context from some other source. So I’m glad you provided me the piece of the puzzle I lacked earlier for me to be able to understand what you _did_ mean.
Anyway, I’ll just comment that my personal experience with money in relation to Jews and Judaism is 180 degrees different from hers, but that’s just my “2 cents” 🙂 🙂 🙂 , and I wouldn’t argue against her being entitled to her own.
Also, I think you’re a very dear and sweet person for giving your friend your ticket and loaning her your car. But I thought that previously.
Re: Jewish???
Ah yes, what he said. Over the years Rebecca and I have had many many many arguments and her defense of her position is generally to reference her ethnicity and I have found that the only way to constructively present to her “I’m not you” is to say, “I’m not Jewish.”
Generally speaking, my experience of my Jewish friends is not one I would generalize in this way but when I am talking to this particular person she embraces the stereotype and defends it and propogates it and… Yeah. It’s a cheap shot but it gets her to back off of me when she otherwise won’t.
you
you are awesome.
🙂
mmm translation you tossed her the ticket like a hot ptoato and shoved her behind the wheel of the car
*grin* You make me sound so much less magnanimous.
you’re so self-sacrificing.
Okay – but this does mean another year of having to fend off “You must go to Burning Man”
Possibly from me as well – I was gonna go this year before the whole Japan thing came up 🙂
Probably a VERY wise choice. Though the thought of sending your Prius off to burning man scares the crap out of me.
And as for the Jewish bit, yeah, dude, Rebecca, honey, you give jewish a really weird name.
The Prius didn’t go. The Frankentruck went. 🙂
Wondered why I couldn’t find you out there 🙂

Coffee and kitties soon?
