I have discovered a trigger I didn’t know I had.
I get really pissed off when people ask me when I am going to get a job. It seems like an overly personal question and none of their business. Unless I am asking you for money or support it really isn’t your business how I pay my bills.
Yeah. Leave it alone please.
*I am SO with you on this.
Not quite related, but questions like “when are you going to get a REAL job” will definitely induce anger in me.
(Unless it’s Laurie Anderson.)
You can’t blame me for the song being in your head.
Naaah, not really. 😉
Yes, I have the same problem in general with judgements disguised as questions.
It could just be that your friends or family are concerned. I asked one of my good friends that question recently because he’s been out of work for months. I don’t care whether he works or not, but I do care that he is taken care of and doing well.
Is it in the context of “when are you graduating” or just clueless people who don’t get the process of becoming a teacher?
Um. Even if it were their business, aren’t you kind of in full time school mode?
Yes I am.
I think this is kind of in the same vein as ‘when are you getting married’ or ‘you’ve been married a while, when are you having kids’….either one, coming from friend, family or near-stranger is just annoying and the reply is usually a good dose of MYOB.
Is this people asking when you are going to become a full-time teacher because they are interested in the progress of your career? Or is it people who want to know when you’re going to stop school and get real work? Not the same thing.
yeah, it’s this sort of a controlling, passive aggressive thing. Like saying; “Gee! From my myopic vantage point, it seems that you are sitting on your butt doing nothing. You should be doing what I think you should be doing. Since I really don’t know very much about your life and I don’t care to listen in order to find out what you are actually doing, I am just going to throw out a phrase so you will feel bad and I won’t have to be more involved in your life than I already am.”
Does that about sum it up?
GRIN!
Thats how I’ve been feeling for a while and I”m sure I”ll be there again shortly
